Day 6

After church on Sunday, we drove over to Kirtland and then over to the John Johnson Farm. A lot of neat things happened in Kirtland as well as at the John Johnson Farm. Kirtland is the place where Newell K. Whitney prayed the Prophet Joseph Smith come. It is also the place where the first temple was built. The John Johnson farm is where Joseph, Emma, and their children stayed to escape persecution and where several sections of the Doctrine and Covenants were scribed

We didn't go inside the temple because we would have had to pay. Plus, they won't let you take any pictures on the inside. So we just thought we would take a picture out front.

The John Johnson Farm.

This is the room where Joseph, Emma, and the twins were sleeping when a mob was let inside by one of John's sons. Joseph aloud himself to be taken and a few yards down from the the front door, they tarred and feathered the prophet. The next morning he arose and delivered a sermon to an audience that included some of those who had been a part of the tarring and feathering the night before.
